When somebody in Lahore types "best dentist in Gulberg" or "plumber near me" into Google, three businesses appear at the top with a map. The first three businesses, called the Local 3-Pack, capture roughly 65% of all clicks on that search. The fourth result and below capture almost nothing. For a Pakistani service business that serves customers locally, getting into the top three of the Local 3-Pack is one of the single highest-leverage things you can do.
The good news: Local SEO is winnable. Most Pakistani businesses run their Google Business Profile at 30 to 50 percent of its potential. A focused 90-day effort regularly moves clients from outside the top 20 to inside the top 3. This post walks through the exact seven-step process we follow.
Why the Local 3-Pack matters
Google's local search algorithm prioritises three factors: relevance (how well your business matches what was searched), distance (how far you are from the searcher), and prominence (how established and trustworthy your business appears online). The 3-Pack is the visual reward for businesses that score well across all three.
For service businesses in Pakistan, 60 to 80 percent of customers find you through some variation of local search. They are not searching your brand name. They are searching "category + location" or "category + near me" while their phone tells Google where they are. If your business is not in the 3-Pack for those queries, you do not exist to those customers.
Step 1: Complete your Google Business Profile fully
Open your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) and audit every field. Most Lahore businesses leave 40 to 60 percent of fields blank. Every blank field is a ranking signal to Google that says "this is a less serious business than the one next door".
Required fields to complete in order: business name (use your actual legal/registered name, not "Best Dentist Lahore"), primary category, additional categories (up to 9), description (750 characters, use them all), opening date, address or service area, phone, website, opening hours, holiday hours, services list with descriptions, products (if applicable), attributes (wheelchair accessible, free WiFi, etc.), photos.
Set up an automated weekly reminder to check this. New fields get added by Google quarterly, and competitors who fill them in faster get ranking benefits.
Step 2: Choose the right primary category
The single biggest ranking factor in local search is your primary category. Picking it wrong means you rank for nothing. Picking it right opens the door to ranking for everything related.
If you are a dental clinic, your primary category should be the most specific dental category that matches what you do. "Dental Clinic" is good. "Cosmetic Dentist" is better if that is your specialism. "Pediatric Dentist" is better still if that is your focus. The more specific, the less competition and the higher the ranking.
Use the 9 secondary category slots aggressively. A general dentist could add "Dental Hygienist", "Cosmetic Dentist", "Pediatric Dentist", "Orthodontist", "Dental Implants Periodontist", "Teeth Whitening Service", "Dental Surgeon", "Emergency Dental Service", "Dental Laboratory". Each one captures a different search.
Step 3: Get reviews systematically
Reviews are the third biggest local ranking factor after primary category and proximity. They are also the only ranking factor that is fully under your control through process.
The aim is 50 plus Google reviews in your first 90 days. Most Pakistani businesses have fewer than 10. Closing that gap is mostly about asking systematically and removing friction.
The ask process we set up: immediately after service or sale, customer receives an SMS or WhatsApp with a personalised message and a direct link to your Google review page. The message is short, personal, and includes a clear "tap here to leave a review" call to action. We aim for a 20 to 30 percent response rate.
The response process: respond to every single review within 24 hours, including negative ones. For positive reviews, thank the customer by name and reference what they liked. For negative reviews, acknowledge the issue, apologise where appropriate, offer to take the conversation offline, and never argue publicly. Google rewards profiles that show active two-way engagement.
Step 4: Post weekly to GBP
Google Business Profile has a Posts feature most Pakistani businesses ignore. It lets you publish updates, offers, events, and product highlights directly to your profile. These appear in the knowledge panel when somebody searches for your business and in the local pack listings.
We publish one post per week for every Local SEO client. The content rotates through: weekly offer or promotion, new service announcement, customer success story, FAQ answer, behind-the-scenes update from the business. Each post includes a relevant photo, 250 to 1,500 characters of text, and a call-to-action button.
Posts do not directly affect rankings, but profiles that publish them consistently rank higher because Google interprets active posting as proof of an active, trustworthy business.
Step 5: Upload geo-tagged photos
Photos are the second-most engaged-with content on Google Business Profile after reviews. Profiles with 100+ photos get 2 to 3 times more views than profiles with 10 photos. Photos with embedded location metadata help Google verify you are physically real and local.
Aim for 5 to 10 new photos per month from your actual business location. Mix: interior shots, exterior shots (including signage with your business name visible), team photos at work, products being made or delivered, customers interacting with your service (with permission), before-and-after of completed work, and seasonal updates (Eid decorations, monsoon preparations, new arrivals).
Phone shots are completely fine. Do not hire a professional photographer until you have at least 50 photos of varied content. Quantity and freshness beat polish for ranking purposes.
Step 6: Build local citations
A citation is any mention of your business name, address, and phone (NAP) on another website. Google uses the consistency of citations across the web as a trust signal. The more consistent NAP mentions you have, the more confident Google is that you are a real, established business.
For Pakistani businesses, prioritise these citation sources in order: Google Business Profile (already done), Facebook business page, LinkedIn company page, Instagram business profile (with location), Daraz Connect, Hamariweb business listing, PakistanYP, Yelp, Foursquare, Tripadvisor (for hospitality), industry-specific directories.
The single biggest mistake: inconsistent NAP. Your name, address, and phone must be byte-for-byte identical across every listing. "Plot 24, Block A" on one site and "Plot 24, A Block" on another confuses Google and reduces trust. Standardise the format and use that everywhere.
Step 7: Create a Lahore-specific landing page
Your website needs a dedicated page targeting "[your service] in Lahore" or "[your service] Lahore". This page should be linked from your homepage, optimised for the location-specific keyword, and rich with local content.
What to include: 800 to 1,500 words of unique content (no copy-pasted city paragraphs), embedded Google Map of your location, photos taken in Lahore, testimonials from Lahore customers with the area they live in, local landmarks or neighborhoods you serve, opening hours in Pakistan time, a Lahore phone number, and FAQ section with locally relevant questions.
This page boosts both your organic ranking for "[service] Lahore" searches and your Local Pack ranking because Google can see clear local relevance signals.
Realistic timeline to rank
| Time after starting | What you should see |
|---|---|
| Week 1 to 2 | Profile audit complete, all blank fields filled in, primary category fixed |
| Week 3 to 4 | First 10 to 15 reviews collected and responded to |
| Week 5 to 8 | Visible movement from page 3 onto page 2 of local results, 30 to 50 reviews total |
| Week 9 to 12 | First appearances in the Local 3-Pack for specific neighborhood searches |
| Month 4 to 6 | Consistent Local 3-Pack rankings across primary service keywords |
The most common reason Pakistani businesses do not rank in Local Pack despite doing the work: they ignore reviews. A profile with 80 reviews and a 4.7 star rating will outrank a profile with 200 reviews and a 4.2 rating, and both will outrank profiles with under 20 reviews regardless of star rating. Quality and recency of reviews matter more than total count.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Local SEO for a Lahore business cost?
The work itself is mostly time investment, not tool cost. Google Business Profile is free, citations are free or low-cost, and the seven-step plan above can be executed for a fraction of what a paid ads budget would cost. The trade-off is time to results: 90 days minimum versus 48 hours for paid ads.
Can my business be in the Local 3-Pack for multiple locations?
Yes, if you have multiple physical addresses (each with its own Google Business Profile). Service area businesses (no physical office) can rank in multiple cities by setting accurate service areas and creating dedicated city landing pages, but rankings are typically tighter than for businesses with a physical address.
What if I get a negative review on my Google Business Profile?
Respond within 24 hours. Acknowledge the customer's concern professionally, offer to take the conversation offline, and do not argue publicly. A well-handled negative review often converts visitors better than an all-positive profile because it proves the reviews are real.
How often should I update my Google Business Profile?
Photos and posts should be added weekly. Reviews should be responded to within 24 hours. The fixed information (hours, services, description) should be reviewed monthly and updated when anything changes (Ramzan hours, new services added, address changes).
Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?
Yes. The profile is necessary but not sufficient. A website gives you a dedicated landing page for searches that go beyond Local Pack, gives you a place to capture leads through forms, and provides social proof that supports ranking. Treat the GBP and the website as one connected system.
